Prayer Of The Church For Christmas 1

December 31, 2017

Christmas 1 (Series B)

Lord God, Heavenly Father, who in the fullness of time sent forth your Son, born of woman, we praise and bless your glorious name! We thank you that in holy baptism we have received the adoption of sons through him, so that we might truly call you Abba, Father.

Grant that we who live under the burden of sin may, in Christ, be regenerated in body, soul, mind and spirit. Empower us by your Spirit to show forth the good works that bespeak repentance, and faithfully do your will with glad hearts and pure minds.

We implore you, gracious Father, to deliver us from all evil, and to rescue us from the present consequences of our sins. Shield us in the hour of temptation, and lead us away from the feverish ways of the world, to the green pastures and still waters of your love.

Let the brightness of your glory shine upon all who call on you for mercy. Illumine hearts filled with darkness, and homes overshadowed with sorrow and suffering. (In particular: Grant eternal rest to Doug and Debbie Swanson who perished in a house fire, and the loved ones who survive them.)

Give the light of truth to all in authority. Grant your might to the military and safety forces that we might live quiet, peaceable and godly lives.

Shed your light upon all educational institutions that they might become fountains of divine wisdom in the midst of a world that lies in the shades of strife, superstition and ignorance.

Bless all commerce that your people might obtain the things that they need for this body and life, and find fulfillment in their labor.

Establish the reign of the Prince of Peace over the nations of the earth. Visit them with your grace, and restore the pure, holy and true Gospel of Christ to our land. Lead our own people and churches to repentance by your goodness; so that all people may live in obedience to the holy Child whom you have sent for the world’s redemption.

For all who are ill (especially: Ross Duman), for those who are troubled, and overwhelmed by the burdens of this life, confer the blessings of good health and hopeful conditions so that they may rise up and joyfully praise you for your compassion.

Receive our grateful thanks for successful medical treatment for Pastor Fyler, and Brian Schreiber, that they may faithfully serve you in the vocations to which you have called them.

And now remembering the sufferings and death of your dear Son, Jesus Christ, for our salvation. Rejoicing in his victorious resurrection from the dead, we draw strength from his ascension before you, where he ever stands for us as our own High Priest. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in his Kingdom, which has no end.

Graciously receive our prayers, deliver and preserve us, for to you alone we give all glory, honor and worship, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God now and unto the ages of ages.
