"You Adversary The Devil" (1 Peter 5:8)
1When I heard the snap of the trap under the kitchen sink, this is what I found. Naturally, being a pastor, I instantly saw the theological lesson herein. It may be a bit vivid (nothing worse than you see on TV), but a picture is worth a thousand words.
St. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 2:11, " ... so that we might not be outwitted by Satan, for we are not unaware of his designs." Don't be outwitted by the devil. Instead do as St. James admonishes, "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Speak the Lord's own words to do this, "Be gone, Satan!" (Mt. 4:10)
And for you young people (but old ones too) who live in this pagan culture that knows not a single truth about sexuality hear St. Paul to Timothy, "So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart." (1 Timothy 2:22)
Nothing may seem sweeter than forbidden fruit, but nothing is deadlier.
"Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Amen
