Motive For The Las Vegas Massacre Revealed

1

The Culture is at a loss!

It can't explain why Stephen Paddock did what he did. But the church can. Even if there were an ideological motive it still would not get at the heart of the matter, which is the heart of man! In the words of the prophet Jeremiah, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) Or in the words of Jesus (Matthew 15:19) "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander."

There is nothing more offensive to human pride, and therefore to the Culture, than the Christian doctrine of Original Sin. Medical people might call him sick, and sociologists poorly adjusted, but the church names him "Sinner," even as it does all men.

As the problem is a spiritual one so is the cure: the liberation of the world from the Evil One's tyranny by the Lord's death on the cross, and his glorious resurrection. As Jesus was about to face his death he said, "Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out." (John 12:31)

The answers don't lie in gun control, but in sinner control, and you can't legislate that. That only comes from the church. From baptism in which sinners obtain redemption, the Holy Spirit, and a good conscience before God. One that teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness. In the words of St. Paul, "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you." (Titus 2:11-15)

What could be bad about that? Only that human pride would have to humble itself before God. There's nothing harder. But nothing better! Because Jesus says, "whoever humbles himself will be exalted, but whoever exalts himself will be humbled."

The Christian spirit which once marked this country and made it great has been steadily defenestrated from public life. It's time to reverse course, otherwise desperate politicians will extinguish our few remaining liberties in the name of safety; and worse lead us all to hell, literally and figuratively. But with Christ you can have both safety and liberty. That's what history shows. That's what logic teaches. Come to God's house. God grant it. Amen.

A retired police officer wrote this response to me:

"Everyone seems to want to know this idiots motives. I guess that's human nature to want to know why. I think the deed speaks for itself. Pure evil needs no motive. We may never know why. He may not even have known himself. Nothing can ever justify his actions so to me his motives aren't all that relevant. I guess in my time on the Police Dept. I just came to accept evil for what it is and make no attempt to explain why people do what they do."

Simple, true and satisfying.
