In her missionary zeal the church has "absolutized" the doctrine of
salvation/justification to the exclusion of all other teachings, in particular the Atonement that our High Priest made for the sins of the world.

The goal of "outreach" is to bring people to Christ, but what does that even mean?

Personal evangelism seminars tell earnest Christians that they must "talk to people about Jesus." But Jesus in such engagements is little more than a five letter word, a notion residing in one's thoughts. That is the state of "outreach" today, but that will never do.

Evangelizing Christians in their encounters talk about being saved/justification. But minus the atonement, that is to say: who Jesus is, and what he has done "for us men and for our salvation," it means little. In fairness it is impossible to communicate the actual gospel under such circumstances; and so would we not be better off to jettison this limping enterprise?

Then what would we do? Then the church would do what she is called to do. "This do in remembrance of me." Then the church will patiently instruct the tender babes in faith, baptize them, absolve them, feed them, strengthen them in faith, hope and love, teach them how to worship, how to pray, how to live, how to die and how to rise again! 

But to engage in talk about Jesus and being saved as a standalone conversation means little or nothing.
