Courage
The gospel for the 10th Sunday after Pentecost fills us with great courage! And that is something we can all use right now. Read it, and meditate on it, and be consoled and calmed by it.
(Matthew 14:22-33)
22 And immediately he ordered the disciples to get into the boat and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd; 23 and when he had dismissed the crowd he ascended the mountain by himself so to pray (mid); and when evening came he was there by himself. 24 The boat, in the mean time, was a long way from land, being beaten by the waves, and sailing into the headwinds. 25 Now in the fourth watch of the night he came to them walking upon the sea; 26 and when the disciples saw him upon the sea, walking, they were terrified and kept saying, "It is an apparition" and they shrieked in fear! 27 But Jesus immediately spoke to them adn said, "Courage! It is I. Let yourselves be frightened no longer."
28 And Peter answered him, "Lord! If it is you command me to come to you upon the waters." 29 He said, "Come!" So Peter lowered himself from the boat and walked! upon the waters, and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind he was afraid he began sinking, and cried out, "Lord, save me." 31 Jesus immediately reached out with his hand and took hold (mid) of him and said to him, "O Littlefaith, why did you doubt." 32 And when they climbed back into the boat the wind ceased! 33 And all who were in the boat worshiped him and declared, "Truly, you are the Son of God."
