On The Seventh Day God Rested From All The Work He Had Done

"So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation." (Genesis 2:3)

As often as we hear these words from Genesis the first thing Christians should see is Jesus in the tomb, resting from "all his work" of salvation that he accomplished in the making of a New Creation.

The first creation as we find it in Genesis chapter one was the proto-type. The New Creation in Christ, by his death, burial and resurrection is the finished product. We don't perceive it in its fullness yet, but we will at our own resurrection. Remember the golden words the church has placed into your heart: I believe in the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. The "body" here referred to here is not Christ's, but our own, because we are baptized into his body. "Buried with him by baptism" as St. Paul says. (Romans 6:4).

And so take great comfort in this image, and in these words. They will shield, strengthen and console you as you suffer the slow death that sin has imposed upon us all.
