After working as the coordinator of student organizations and special projects at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, he attended Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis, receiving an M. Div in 1990. Following graduation, he received a call to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour, SD and was ordained. He then was called to start a mission congregation in Dakota Dunes, SD and served as pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church until 2000 when he accepted a call to Zionsville, IN.

CH Wurdeman took the oath of office for the Chaplain Corps of the United States Army in August of 2008. He attended Chaplain Officer Basic Leader Course at Ft. Jackson, SC. After graduation, he served as squadron chaplain at 1/4 CAV at Ft Riley, KS, deploying to Iraq in 2009 and Afghanistan in 2012. He then served as battalion chaplain at 1-6 Infantry at Ft Bliss, TX. He completed the Chaplain Captains Career Course in June 2016, receiving the Francis P. Duffy Award as distinguished honor graduate. He served as battalion chaplain at 242 EOD at Ft Carson and is currently studying toward an M.S. in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University.
