Above all else, Christians deal with truth. This is what makes the tsunami of deception that oozes from every pore of culture so painful. It is a basic tenet of our faith that, "Love rejoices in the truth." (1 Corinthians 13). And so mendacity makes our heads hurt. Dissumulation, false consclusions, facile arguments, and begging the question makes us feel as though we have been punched in the brain.

But deception these days is such an advanced art that most people, Christians included, are unable to detect it. They are swept away by the lies, great and small, of the devil, the culture and the flesh. 

As Joe Gargary says to Pip in Great Expectations, “…lies is lies. Howsever they come, they didn’t ought to come, and they come from the father of lies, and work round to the same. Don’t you tell no more of ‘em, Pip.”
